Trauma informed care - a training package for aged care

A whole of organisation approach to trauma informed practice

Aged care providers are increasingly expected to embed trauma-informed care into their practices. This training package supports services to:

  • Meet Aged Care Quality Standards (e.g., Standard 1 & 3)
  •  Foster psychological safety and dignity for residents
  •  Improve staff confidence in recognising and responding to trauma

This training package aims to provide Aged Care Services with a suite of training options that focus on :

  1. Knowing (Level 1 — Awareness): Understand what trauma looks like in a context of working with older people—common triggers, impacts on behaviour and care—and the immediate ways staff can increase felt safety.
  2. Being (Level 2 — Principles in Practice): Embed trauma-informed principles (safety, trust, choice, collaboration, cultural respect) in everyday interactions with residents, families and colleagues.
  3. Doing (Level 3 — Assessment and Planning): Turn knowledge into consistent practice by aligning processes supporting assessment and planning —with tools, practice ideas and other measures that sustain trauma-informed care.

Packages can be purchased individually or as a package. Facilitation is available for delivery of all three workshops.

A train-the-trainer workshop is available to support sustainable professional development and integration of trauma-informed practices.

A copy of all resources is provided as part of the training package
